A half dozen years ago, I tried to start a writing group at the Centerburg Library. We had four people show up for the first meeting. Then it started to drop off. Two of us stuck it out for a while. We even had a night of poetry at the Village Offices.
I’ve kept track of the other person on Facebook. Not in a stalking way, but a hopeful encouraging way. Becky has had her hands full with two children and an enormous desire to run around the globe. She’s a runner, and a damn fine one at that. So where does that leave time for writing?
Well, she found the time, finally. She wrote and submitted a short story in a contest at the same said library. She was a winner! She shared the link to her story that resides on her blog and has allowed me to share it as well. You can read it here: http://scribbletodaywritetomorrow.blogspot.com/2025/08/the-colors-they-forgot.html
It’s a story that can be enjoyed by all, but I find it particularly appropriate to share with children. It would make for a great bedtime story.
It has also inspired in me an idea for a story of my own. I don’t have time to write it with all the other projects, but it will be there in the back of my mind for the future.
The short story is inspirational as the tale wraps up, but I find it so uplifting that as writers we can inspire each other to continue or start writing. Below is a flyer for the Mount Vernon Library’s writing group, All Write. I know it has helped, encouraged, and inspired me. I hope to get Becky there some day.
Please, if you go to the link above and read her story, leave her an encouraging comment.
Let’s talk soon…
